Who Wants Some Cash!
Currently, Kennedy Road Middle School students are involved or will become involved in one of three opportunities available to help push cash in their pockets. We've had winners in the past and hope to have more. Here are the events:
C-SPAN's Student Cam contest
C-SPAN's StudentCam is an annual national video documentary competition that encourages students to think seriously about issues that affect our communities and our nation. Students are asked to create a short (5-8 minute) video documentary on a topic related to the competition theme listed below.
Tell Us Why Teaching Matters
The Network for Excellence in Teaching (NExT) initiative is sponsoring a super easy way to win up to $1,000 with their online video contest. Just submit a 30- to 60-second video and upload it to this site. Tell us why you are passionate about becoming a teacher, how a teacher changed your life or just express your admiration for the teaching profession.
The grand prize is a $1,000 gift card to the retailer of the winner's choice, but you must be 13-years-old or older to enter. Sample videos are available for viewing if you are interested.
Nation STEM Video Game Challenge
This video game challenge engages middle school students (grades 5 through 8) in STEM learning by challenging them to design original video games. The Youth Prize design challenge will be open to middle school students from any U.S. school with a special emphasis on reaching students in underserved communities.
The cool part of this is that students can actually build their own video games with FREE software or they can write about the game. Get the software links and the description requirements here.
Students, please see Mr. Harper if you are interested in any of these competitions. If you are serious about entering, he is serious about helping you succeed...but hurry! The deadline for each of these is rapidly approaching.
